Couples often come into counselling or therapy because they have reached an impasse in their relationship. They may feel unable to discuss or find a solution to certain issues that may be driven by old wounds and resentments that are being carried around. Couples may experience a distance from one another as they shy away from discussing certain things, or alternately may be struggling with a lot of conflict each time they approach certain subjects.
How couples or marriage counselling can help
Counselling (and/or therapy) offers a neutral, safe place for you to clarify your wishes, desires, and needs, and understand what is getting in the way of feeling understood and responded to in a way that makes you feel good about yourself and your partner. During marriage or couple counselling, you will explore what attracted you to one another, what you would like in your relationship and re-ignite feelings of closeness between you.
